MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A Jan. 25 trial has been scheduled for a 23-year-old Indianapolis man charged in his 5-month-old son’s death in Muncie earlier this year.

The (Muncie) Star Press reports (https://tspne.ws/1fkRrLr ) Cory Wallace is charged with counts including arson and neglect of a dependent resulting in death. He was arrested Aug. 7.

Wallace told a Delaware County judge Monday that he needs a public defender. The judge granted his request and set bond at $180,000. Wallace said he hadn’t yet reviewed the charges against him.

Police say Wallace told them he dropped his son on a hardwood floor on Feb. 10 and placed him in a playpen instead of seeking medical attention. Police say Wallace said he determined hours later that his son died and set two fires in his son’s bedroom.
