LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Lynchburg police say the slaying of a 16-year-old boy and at least five other recent shootings are related to gang and drug activity.

Police say Jimmie Paige Jr. died at a hospital shortly after he was shot late Saturday. A 17-year-old male and a 21-year-old male were wounded.

Capt. Ryan Zuidema told media outlets at a Tuesday news conference that investigators believe the shootings are targeted attacks between specific groups and individuals.

No one was injured in three shootings that occurred in March and June. A man was shot in the leg on Aug. 8. On Monday, a house was hit by gunfire but no one was injured.
