PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities have identified the victim and the suspect in a deadly shooting outside a Phoenix hotel.

Phoenix police said Tuesday that 21-year-old Elijah Shelton III is facing charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the death of 18-year-old Keith Steele.

Police spokesman James Holmes says Steele and his 17-year-old girlfriend were at the La Quinta Inn on Thomas Road and Interstate 17 on Monday when Steele and the suspect got into an argument.

Holmes says Shelton allegedly started firing a handgun, sending the couple running through the parking lot.

The girl suffered minor injuries.

Holmes says Steele fired a handgun with small pellets, slightly injuring Shelton.

The suspect went to a hospital, where police were called.

It is not yet known if Shelton has an attorney.
