ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 71-year-old man was seriously injured in a crash Tuesday on the Parks Highway near Big Lake.

Alaska State Troopers say John Hensel had to be extricated from his sedan. He was transported to a hospital.

Hensel was driving south just after 11 a.m. near Mile 50 and was slowing or stopped to make a left turn when his car was struck from behind by a van driven by 62-year-old Rodger Demiller of Trapper Creek.

Hensel was pushed into a northbound sport utility vehicle driven by 68-year-old Ruth Strong of Talkeetna. Strong and her passenger also were transported to a hospital for evaluation.

Troopers issued Demiller a negligent driving citation.
