BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Baton Rouge man has pleaded guilty in the 2012 slaying of his pregnant 21-year-old girlfriend and her unborn baby during a domestic dispute,

Adam Sterling was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years in prison.

Sterling’s plea came on the second day of jury selection at his trial on charges of second-degree murder, feticide and felon in possession of a weapon.

East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III says Sterling offered to plead guilty to manslaughter in the death of Shylah Hicks, feticide and the weapons charge,

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1foMeCx) Hicks was five months pregnant at the time of the shooting on Sept. 25, 2012. She was shot multiple times outside her home
