AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Police are searching for thieves who targeted storage units in northeast Ohio and made off with military gear from a former Marine’s time in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Springfield Township Police Capt. Ken Ray says the storage unit belonging to 31-year-old veteran Justin Kieffer and his wife was one of 14 broken into between Saturday and Tuesday morning at Park Place Equipment Storage on Waterloo Road.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1TTtYPk ) six other people have reported thefts from the units.

Leah Kieffer estimates “well over $2,000 worth of stuff” was stolen from the couple’s unit, including Justin’s military-issued clothing, boots, helmets and other related gear.

The couple didn’t have insurance on the contents of the unit, but they hope the thieves will return the items issued by the Marine Corps.
