SOLEDAD, Calif. (AP) - A small earthquake has rattled a rural area of Central California but there were no reports of damage or injury.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 3.1 quake struck at 4:39 a.m. Wednesday about 18 miles northeast of Soledad.

The USGS says the quake in Monterey County occurred at a depth of about 5.6 miles.

A Soledad police dispatcher says there have been no calls regarding the quake.
