SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - Southaven’s proposed budget for fiscal 2016 survived its public hearing with little comment and few changes from the plan hammered out after presentations for department heads last month.

The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1gWQQ3V) the formal vote on adopting the budget for the year that begins Oct. 1 will come on Sept. 1, but aldermen gave the public a chance to speak out during Tuesday evening’s regular meeting.

Mayor Darren Musselwhite says his budget includes $2.65 million be used for citywide street and drainage improvements, and the hiring of four additional police officers to patrol the area around the new Tanger Factory Outlet Mall scheduled to open late this year.
