TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A suspect accused of shooting a Tucson police officer in the hand and attacking other officers is in jail.

Tucson police say 28-year-old Daniel Nelson was released from a hospital Tuesday and booked into Pima County Jail.

Nelson faces multiple charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer stemming from two separate incidents involving police.

Other counts include resisting arrest and assault involving a deadly weapon.

Police say Nelson allegedly punched an officer in the face at a convenience store early Monday and tried to use another officer’s badge to attack them.

He then choked an officer guarding him at the hospital, taking his service weapon and shooting him once in the hand.

That officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

It was not known Wednesday if Nelson had an attorney.
