HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - An Arkansas woman and her daughter died Thursday in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 in DeSoto County in northwest Mississippi.

Authorities identified the driver as 49-year-old Susan Overton of Jonesboro, Arkansas. Officials have not released the name of the 9-year-old girl.

Multiple media outlets report that Sheriff Bill Rasco says a UPS truck and Overton’s SUV collided in the interstate’s southbound lanes near the Coldwater Bridge about 3:30 a.m. Rasco says an investigation shows the SUV was going north in the southbound lanes when it collided head-on with the UPS truck.

Rasco says both vehicles caught fire after the accident.

He says the UPS driver was not seriously injured.
