PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A longtime activist accused of having sex with a 15-year-old boy is hosting a fundraiser next month for the Multnomah County Democratic Party.

Terrence Bean recently contributed $5,000 to the county party and is scheduled to host a “VIP Party” at his home next month. Bean is scheduled to go on trial Sept. 1 on sex abuse and sodomy charges.

Multnomah County Democratic Party spokeswoman Sue Hagmeier tells the Oregonian (https://bit.ly/1E7T37p ) that Bean is an old friend, and it’s hard to “pile on” him when he’s accused of a crime but not convicted.

Bean has pleaded not guilty.

Bean is a Portland real estate developer who helped found two national political groups. He has been a major contributor for several Democratic presidential candidates.
