CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) - Thousands of bees have swarmed a Canon City neighborhood after tree trimmers accidentally cut open a large hive.

KKTV reports (https://tinyurl.com/pqcm3n2) the swarm erupted Wednesday as a crew was removing a tree. Beekeepers are trying to calm the insects before taking them to another home.

Tree trimmer Jason Sharp says he and other members of the crew were stung 15 to 20 times each.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Department warned people who are allergic to bees to avoid the area.
