MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange says a former judicial assistant for a county’s district court has been convicted of theft.

Strange said Thursday that former Calhoun County District Court assistant Melody Warren of Oxford pleaded guilty in Calhoun County Circuit Court.

Strange says Warren’s 31-month sentence has been suspended for a three-month probation term. Warren is also ordered to pay more than $4,100 in restitution.

Strange says 53-year-old Warren had been taking money from people who had upcoming district court cases rather than taking it to the clerk’s office.
