GAUTIER, Miss. (AP) - The coastal city of Gautier briefly removed a Mississippi flag from a veterans’ display in front of City Hall, then raised it again after veterans objected.

Several cities and a few counties have furled the state flag during the past two months because it includes the Confederate battle emblem.

Multiple media outlets report that the Gautier City Council discussed the state flag Tuesday night but did not vote on whether it should keep flying.

Gautier City Hall has a Veterans’ Tower with several flagpoles. The Mississippi flag was briefly removed from one pole Wednesday and replaced with a city flag.

The American Legion provides flags for the tower. After some Legion members criticized removal of the state flag, it went back up.
