HAMILTON, Mass. (AP) - The driver in an accident that injured two Massachusetts police officers last week has been charged with speeding and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Hamilton police tell The Salem News (https://bit.ly/1gYwzuR ) that 22-year-old Angel Pouerietgeronimo, of Salem, was driving more than 10 miles per hour over the speed limit when his car left the road on Aug. 11. He then hit Ipswich officers Zachary Bird and David Harrell who were standing in a driveway.

Police say Bird suffered fractures of his arm and leg. Harrell was treated and released from the hospital.

An investigation found that Pouerietgeronimo was speeding in rainy conditions when he drove off the road.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Ipswich District Court.
