PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man charged with fatally stabbing a woman in front of her daughter on Mother’s Day has been ordered held without bail.

WJAR-TV (https://bit.ly/1gY56ta ) reports that Germaine Stansfield was arraigned Wednesday in Providence Superior Court on a murder indictment.

Prosecutors say 43-year-old Stansfield fatally stabbed 42-year-old Christine Santurri after she opened the back door of her East Providence apartment on Mother’s Day. Police say they searched for Stansfield after he made threatening comments to Santurri shortly before she was killed.

Stansfield is also accused of violating a restraining order Santurri had against him.

He is due back in court on Oct. 5.
