NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A South Florida man has been sentenced to a year in prison for accidentally shooting and killing his friend while watching Monday Night Football.

As part of a deal with Miami-Dade County prosecutors, Brandon Lapeikis pleaded guilty to manslaughter Thursday.

Authorities say Lapeikis, 19-year-old Christian Salazar and two other friends were at Lapeikis’ North Miami Beach home in December 2013. The group had reportedly been playing a game earlier where they pointed an empty pistol that belonged to Salazar at one another and slapped the person if they flinched.

The Miami Herald (https://goo.gl/Z0o4dC ) reports that Salazar loaded the gun at some point. Not knowing the gun was loaded, Lapeikis retrieved the weapon from another room, pointed it at Salazar’s head and pulled the trigger.

Salazar was airlifted to a nearby hospital but died the next day.
