WEST COVINA, Calif. (AP) - The California Highway Patrol says a man survived with serious injuries after jumping from a bridge onto a major Los Angeles County highway, shutting down eastbound lanes.

CHP Officer Jennifer Cassidy says the apparent suicide attempt occurred just after 6 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 10 in West Covina.

Cassidy says the unidentified man climbed over the safety cage on the Barranca Bridge and jumped into lanes. She says the man was rushed to a hospital.

Three eastbound lanes were closed for about 40 minutes.
