GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Mars Foods says the modernization of its Greenville plant is on schedule.

Mars Food makes Uncle Ben’s Rice and other products in Greenville.

Mars Food North America spokesman Matt Hurst says in a statement Thursday that the company is in the final design phase for the R&D; application center and is committed to the time frame announced for the project.

Last October, Mars announced it will spend $31 million over three years for upgrades and new expansion, including a new carton production line, the application center and other site upgrades.

Hurst says the carton line is fully installed and up and running.

Since the announcement, Hurst says Mars has invested more than $13 million into the site. He says 28 jobs have been filled.

Mars opened its Greenville plant in 1978.
