CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire police have arrested a man they say tried to drive onto a highway that was closed due to a sinkhole.

Police say 55-year-old Thomas Conner of Chichester was arrested Wednesday in Concord and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.

The sinkhole - 14 feet wide, 12 feet long and 20 feet deep - shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 93 Wednesday afternoon. The highway was reopened later that night after crews repaired the road.

Police say Conner tried to drive a car around signs, traffic cones and flags to get onto the closed highway. Police say his blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.

A phone listing for Conner could not be found. He is due in court on Sept. 4.
