MAMARONECK, N.Y. (AP) - An electrician has been arrested and charged with setting a fire that spread through the Thruway Authority’s Mamaroneck facility in Westchester County.

Police say 54-year-old Richard Cass, who worked for the state agency, was charged with arson.

According to the Journal News (https://lohud.us/1JkGLsB ), Cass allegedly “recklessly” started the fire at the facility’s salt shed after hours on Tuesday.

A Thruway spokesman says the blaze destroyed the shed and damaged a front end loader and other equipment in another building. He says it obliterated most of the authority’s initial salt supply for the winter for area roads.

Cass was released and is scheduled to appear in Mamaroneck Town Court on Aug. 31.

He couldn’t immediately be reached by phone at his home in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
