RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Two proposed new undergraduate degree programs at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville are a step closer to approval.

The ATU Board of Trustees on Thursday approved letters of intent that will be sent to the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board announcing plans for a Bachelor of Arts degree in game and interactive media and a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science.

The ATU Department of Art and the Department of Biological Sciences will now prepare program proposals that would have to be approved by faculty governance, the trustees and the higher education coordinating board.

University officials say the game and interactive media design degree would prepare students for work in various entertainment fields while the environmental science degree would help graduates to work in government and private industry.
