SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Two charter schools in the Salt Lake City area will close permanently within days of their classes starting.

Alianza Academy in West Valley City and South Salt Lake will close its doors Friday after classes began Wednesday. Wasatch Institute of Technology in Murray will not open Monday as was originally scheduled.

The Utah State Charter Schools Board proposed last week to close the schools, which were put on probation this year for enrollment, budget and academic problems.

Alianza is a kindergarten through eighth grade school which enrolled about 300 students between both its campuses. Wasatch had about 100 students.

School officials say they will not help place students in other schools.
