ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - An Atlantic City man faces 10 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a man found dead inside his home in 2011.

The Press of Atlantic City reports (https://bit.ly/1JnD5X2 ) 22-year-old Okese Smith pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter Thursday for the death of 48-year-old city resident Bruce Bowers.

Officers responding to a Feb. 2011 call reporting a strong odor emanating from an apartment at Lighthouse Plaza uncovered the body of Bowers.

Bowers’ cause of death was determined to be a fatal gunshot wound to his chest.

Smith, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, was arrested in May 2014 following a three-year investigation. Adult criminal complaints were issued in July 2014.

Smith must serve 8 ½ years before he’s eligible for parole. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 2.
