WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia police say a teen suspect in a shooting that killed a recent American University graduate has surrendered to authorities.

Police said that 19-year-old Marcus King was turned himself in early Friday and was charged with second-degree murder while armed in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Matthew Shlonsky.

In a telephone call to WRC-TV on Thursday morning, King said he was innocent and too scared to turn himself in. He said he was a witness to the shooting but was not involved in any way.

Police believe Shlonsky was a bystander to a gunfight between two groups of people near the Shaw Metro station. King, who lives nearby, told WRC-TV he was shot in the face a few days before the fatal shooting.
