ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say at least 11 people have overdosed on heroin - three of them fatally - in a 24-hour period in an Orlando area.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jeff Williamson tells local media that the overdose victims were found between Wednesday and Thursday at multiple locations near Blossom Park in southern Orlando. The victims ranged in age from 20 to 52 years old.

Williamson says a heavy presence of deputies has been dispatched to the area to prevent the sale and use of heroin.

On Monday, Orange County’s newly formed heroin task force met for the first time to address the heroin problem. The number of heroin deaths in Orange and Osceola counties increased to 89 last year, up from 49 deaths in 2013.
