COLUMBIA FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A fire at the Plum Creek Timber Co.’s medium-density fiberboard plant in Columbia Falls has caused the company to shut down a production line.

The Thursday morning blaze broke out on the No. 1 production line where wood fiber is fed into the processing line.

Columbia Falls firefighter Karl Weeks says an explosion in the plant caused multiple spot fires.

All employees were able to exit the building safely, and no injuries were reported.

Plum Creek spokeswoman Kathy Budinick says there appears to be no damage to the equipment on Line 1, but production won’t continue until the fire-suppression equipment can recharge. The process takes four to six days.

The company is taking time to clean up the plant and investigate the incident.
