NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Education Equal Opportunity Group is hosting a fundraising and awards gala in Nashville on Saturday to help college-bound students.

The event will be at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel at 6:30 p.m.

Founded in 2001, EEOG is a collegiate and professional career preparatory organization for public high school students.

Group founder George Thomas says the organization seeks to create practical and real-life learning opportunities to try to increase retention rates and encourage underserved students statewide to graduate, as well as pursue a postsecondary education.

He says money from the fundraiser will be used to expand the group’s educational initiatives that encourage students to pursue their endeavors beyond high school and college.
