GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Georgia Sen. Johnny Isakson says a Senate committee will meet in Gainesville to discuss a program allowing eligible veterans to get medical treatment outside the Department of Veterans Affairs facilities.

A hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the University of North Georgia’s campus in Gainesville.

Isakson’s office said in a statement that Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald is expected to testify. The statement said that Isakson wants to discuss issues Georgia veterans have experienced as a new law allowing outside health care is implemented. The hearing is the third to be held on the topic.
