WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A new provider is being sought for a privately run, South Florida juvenile detention facility whose conditions are under investigation by the state.

The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice announced Thursday that the operator of the Palm Beach Juvenile Correctional Facility, a for-profit company called Youth Services International, has begun the early termination process of its contract with the state.

The change comes after local officials raised concerns about issues including insufficient staffing and violence they say had sent boys to the hospital.

Youth Services International Regional Vice President Yasir S. Diab said in a statement that the choice was made after discussions between the department and the Sarasota-based company.

Officials say the company will continue providing services at the West Palm Beach facility until a new provider is in place.
