FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - A man has been convicted of killing his ex-wife and her fiance at a southwest Florida marina.

A Lee County jury found 72-year-old Michael Spiegel guilty Friday of second-degree murder and arson. The News-Press (https://goo.gl/0mosxR ) reports that he faces a possible life sentence at a Sept. 28 hearing.

Authorities say Spiegel killed his ex-wife, 69-year-old Marilyn Spiegel, and her fiance, 71-year-old Harry Carlip, on their boat docked at Salty Sam’s Marina on Fort Myers Beach in May 2014. Officials say Michael Spiegel also set a fire on the boat in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.

Defense attorneys acknowledged that Michael Spiegel committed the killings but argued he was not guilty because he was insane at the time.
