BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man who was killed when his vehicle was hit by a train at a railroad crossing west of Reed Point.

Sweet Grass County Sheriff Dan Tronrud identified the victim Friday as 59-year-old Robert Fred Hensel Jr., of Columbus.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Aaron Freivalds told The Billings Gazette (https://goo.gl/6Onf8l ) the man was trying to beat the train when he was hit just before 1 p.m. Wednesday. Hensel died at the scene.

He was wearing a seat belt, and there is no indication that alcohol was involved in the crash.
