MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Memphis man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing four men, including a former police officer, during separate robberies.

Shelby County district attorney’s office spokesman Vince Higgins says Michael Dean entered the guilty pleas and received four consecutive life sentences without parole in criminal court Friday. Dean pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder.

Dean had been charged with murder in the February 2012 shooting death of former Memphis officer Charles Jones and the January 2012 fatal shooting of Valero employee Leonard Davidson. Dean’s co-defendant in both killings, Ashley Carver, pleaded guilty in June to two counts of second-degree murder.

Dean also pleaded guilty to killing two other people in another robbery-killing in December 2011.

Prosecutors had filed notice to seek the death penalty if Dean was convicted at trial.
