SANTA CLARA, N.Y. (AP) - New York State Police say a 39-year-old Oregon man has drowned while swimming in a pond at his family’s camp in the Adirondacks.

Troopers say Brian Gualtieri of Portland was on vacation and had arrived Sunday night at the family’s property on Church Pond in the Franklin County town of Santa Clara, in the northern Adirondacks 140 miles northwest of Albany.

Police tell the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh (https://bit.ly/1MIdPgD ) that he went for a swim around 1 a.m. Monday as relatives slept. At about 8:30 a.m., a family member placed a call to 911.

Emergency crews arrived and conducted life-saving measures for about 45 minutes but were not able to save him.

Gualtieri’s body was taken to Adirondack Medical Center, where an autopsy was conducted Tuesday. Officials determined his death was due to drowning and ruled it an accident.
