MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) - Officials say a Connecticut man who was rescued from a pond earlier this week has died.

Authorities responded to a 911 call just after 3 p.m. Wednesday saying that a man had jumped into an illegal swimming hole in Middletown and didn’t resurface.

Middletown South Fire District Chief Robert Ross said the man was in about 30 feet of water for little over an hour before rescuers pulled him out.

Officials say 26-year-old Andrew Frizzen, of Portland, was unconscious and taken to Middlesex Hospital where he died on Thursday.

Officials say the area “is not a safe place” and advise residents not to swim there.
