CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - An Alameda County sheriff’s deputy has been hospitalized after a suspected drunk driver crashed into his patrol car.

KTVU-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1MCI1bv ) the collision happened Friday while the deputy was on a traffic stop

The deputy had been sitting in the parked car with his leg hanging out of the door when a BMW SUV slammed into the vehicle.

The deputy was rushed to Even Valley Medical Center. His injures have been described as not life-threatening.

The other driver was not injured.

Video from the scene shows the BMW lost a front tire, and the deputy’s car sustained major exterior damage.

California Highway Patrol investigators say the other driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The crash remains under investigation.
