AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - A Texas trooper has confiscated about $579,000 worth of heroin found hidden in a car traveling east of Amarillo.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Friday that bundles containing more than 4 pounds of heroin were inside a window cowling.

The trooper on Thursday stopped the car, for a traffic violation, on eastbound Interstate 40 near Conway, in Carson County. Investigators believe the heroin was being transported from Arizona.

DPS says two Phoenix-area men in the vehicle face charges of possession of a controlled substance.

Officials are trying to determine where the car and the heroin were headed.
