SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A wanted man caught by police after he allegedly slammed into two police cars has managed to evade police again after walking away from a Salt Lake City hospital.

Police had confronted 34-year-old David Garcia about vehicle burglaries Wednesday. The suspect hit two patrol cars and two civilian vehicles in an attempt to flee police.

Authorities found Garcia hiding in a window well a short time later. He was arrested but taken to St. Mark’s Hospital to be treated, because he told police he had ingested drugs.

Unified Police Department Lt. Lex Bell says suspects are usually handcuffed and monitored by guards when treated at hospitals. But there were no guards in Garcia’s case.

The hospital’s security cameras show Garcia as he left the building and disappeared.
