MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A trash-to-fuel project in Martinsburg will be funded with a $25 million bond.

The state Economic Development Authority board in Charleston unanimously authorized the bond Thursday to finance Entsorga West Virginia’s facility.

Entsorga West Virginia had hoped to break ground on the $19 million facility last December. The groundbreaking was pushed back because financing for the project bogged down.

The Journal (https://bit.ly/1TY6o9l ) reports the tax-exempt bond will be used to pay for the entire project, including design, acquisition, construction and equipment.

The Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority and Entsorga have been working on the project since 2009. The plant would use a mechanical biological treatment system to organize incoming waste without the need for employees to sort it by hand.
