ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Five members of a central New York fire department are to be honored together as “Firefighter of the Year” for their daring rescue of two men from a fire last Christmas morning.

Deputy Chief Frank Crispin, Deputy Chief Steve Zaferakis, and firefighters Ryan Whitmore, Phil Vogt and Jeremy Corso of the Moyers Corners Fire Department in Liverpool will be feted at a ceremony Saturday in Albany at the state Firemen’s Association’s annual convention. They will receive medals of valor for their heroics.

The five worked together as a unit to pull a semi-conscious 49-year-old man and a 31-year-old man in cardiac arrest from a burning trailer home in a rescue dubbed “The Christmas Miracle.” They also provided critical medical care to the victims at the scene, which saved their lives.
