NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - Niagara Falls is the finish line for the inaugural Empire State Ride organized to raise money for cancer research and treatment.

The seven-day bicycle trek wrapping up Saturday had riders pedal 518 miles across New York state to benefit Buffalo’s Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

They began last Sunday in New York City’s Battery Park and averaged 74 miles per day, making overnight stops in the Hudson Valley, Albany, Utica, Syracuse and Rochester.

Organizers say the event attracted riders from across the Northeast and as far away as France.

Registration for next year’s ride is already open.
