COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A central Ohio man has been sentenced to four years in prison for getting behind the wheel while drunk, driving off the road and killing one pedestrian and injuring another a year ago.

A judge in Columbus sentenced Scott Haslehurt on Friday after the 33-year-old pleaded guilty last month to aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and failure to stop after an accident. His blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit for driving in Ohio.

The Columbus Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1hxESys ) reports that Haslehurst had been drinking all day before driving off the road and killing 59-year-old Ana Maria Illescas-Gallegos and seriously injuring 41-year-old Verulo Valladares.

Haslehurst apologized in court. His attorney said he was a bad alcoholic who couldn’t control his drinking.

He also loses his license for life.
