UNITY, Maine (AP) - Unity College in Maine is naming its chief academic officer as its new interim president for a 30-month term.

The college’s board unanimously named Melik Peter Khoury as the president-elect on Aug. 14. His appointment begins on Jan. 3. Current president Stephen Mulkey announced his retirement in June and will remain president until Khoury takes over.

Khoury came to the private liberal arts college in 2013 as senior vice president for external affairs. He later served as executive vice president and chief financial officer and added the title of chief academic officer earlier this year.

Unity College has about 550 students in Unity, Maine.
