BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Supreme Court has rejected the final legal challenge for a long-delayed roadway from Interstate 189 into downtown Burlington.

The Friday ruling by the Supreme Court turns aside a landowner’s lawsuit that took issue with traffic congestion forecasts in the state land-use permit issued for the project.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger says the decision is “an important milestone,” but more work and planning remain before construction can begin.

The Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1JmViQ2 ) reports the appeal was filed by attorneys for the Fortieth Burlington company, which has property along the path of the project. The appeal argued the parkway would worsen traffic congestion.

Representatives of the company could not be reached for comment.

Planning for what is now being called the Champlain Parkway first began in the 1960s.
