FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Fargo police say a scam to get homeless people or day laborers to cash fraudulent checks could be returning to the area.

The large-scale scam was active in the Fargo area from December 2014 through February 2015 and resulted in over $120,000 in losses to some banks.

Police have notified financial institutions and day labor businesses about the potential scheme.

Authorities say people should be cautious about cashing checks for acquaintances and third parties.
