CAMDEN, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a man was stabbed by a driver who gave him a ride from Maryland.

It happened about 10:30 p.m. Monday when a man called 911, saying he had been stabbed in Camden. Troopers and paramedics took the man to a hospital for treatment of a stab wound to his shoulder.

Police say the victim got a ride from Federalsburg, Maryland, to the Dover, Delaware, area from a man he couldn’t identify by name. Officers say when the driver stopped near Dover, he asked the victim for $5.

The victim refused to give the driver money, police say, and the driver stabbed the man in the shoulder.

Troopers say the driver took money from the victim’s wallet, ordered him out of the car and drove away.
