RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - More than 65 countries have qualified to send teams to compete in an international bike race in Richmond next month.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1NTRdHj ) organizers for the UCI Road World Championships say for some riders this will be their first time competing in the event, which will be held from Sept. 19 to Sept. 27.

Some of the qualifying nations include: Argentina, Egypt, Greece, Iran, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand and Rwanda.

The competitions, which will bring riders, media, officials and fans from across the globe, are expected to attract about 450,000 spectators over nine days. The event is also expected to be watched by about 300 million viewers worldwide.

The race is being held in the United States for the first time since 1986.
