KENDALLVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a 52-year-old Kendallville man died in a lake in his hometown.

Indiana conservation officers identified the victim Wednesday at Dwayne Sparkman. The Noble County Coroner’s Office preliminarily ruled the cause of death was drowning.

Sparkman’s body was recovered about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday from Bixler Lake in Kendallville, about 25 miles northwest of Fort Wayne.

Indiana conservation officers and other agencies responded to the scene about six hours earlier after a caller said a person swimming in the lake was calling for help. The caller said witnesses saw Sparkman go underwater and not resurface.
