WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (AP) - Authorities say a 29-year-old Connecticut man has been arrested on charges that he held up two women at gunpoint over the weekend.

Police said Wednesday Joshua Omar Sauri was found hiding between two buildings in Willimantic. Sgt. Alex Coriaty says he’s charged with first-degree robbery. He faced a judge Wednesday morning at Danielson Superior Court.

He’s accused of robbing two women at gunpoint Sunday night and fleeing the scene. He was seen going into a house, prompting heavily armed officers to surround the home.

When authorities went into the house after a prolonged standoff, Sauri was gone.

Sauri is being held in lieu of $250,000 bond. It is not immediately known if he has a lawyer.

WFSB-TV reports court officials said he may have an underlying drug addiction and medical issues.

This story has been corrected to show the alleged robbery victims were women, not men
