PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) - Trial has begun for a Raleigh County man charged in connection with the death of his wife.

Multiple media outlets report 61-year-old Johnnie Ray Farley pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Lynette Denise Farley on Tuesday in Mercer County Circuit Court.

Police say Johnnie Farley reported his wife missing last September. He was arrested last October after her body was found buried on his farm near the Mercer and Raleigh county line.

Assistant prosecutor Kelli Harshbarger told the jury that Johnnie Farley had planned the murder and had confessed to killing his wife.

His attorney, Jay Williams, told the jury that his client’s marriage “was falling apart” and he had been under a great deal of stress, and that his wife had been seeing another man.
